Travel & Airline Credit Cards

Updated on

Travel and airline credit cards are those that reward card holders with either airline miles or points that can be used for travel rewards.  The type of travel rewards you can earn range from free travel insurance to points that enable you to purchase airfare or gas.  The standard for travel and airline cards today is to offer air mileage without any blackout dates.

Because of how many different kinds of travel rewards there are, not every card works the same, so it’s important to read the fine print carefully before you attempt to sign up for any of these cards.  Also keep in mind that only frequent travelers will benefit from these cards, so it’s best to look elsewhere if you do not travel often. more »

This card also offers points which users can redeem for travel or to cover the annual fee, which is free for the first year and $55 beginning the second year after you have the card.  Update: Get 20,000 Bonus FlexPoints after the first $3,500 in net purchases in the first 150 days!  You’ll earn an additional 3,500 FlexPoints after you make $24,000 in net purchases.  You also receive one FlexPoint per dollar of eligible purchases made on the card and two FlexPoints for every dollar you spend for airfare, gas, or groceries.  The double points apply only to the one of those three categories that you spend the most in.   Triple FlexPoints are earned for all charitable donations made on the card.

You can start redeeming your FlexPoints for airfare when you reach 20,000, which is roughly equivalent to $400 in airfare.  The FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa® Signature Card comes with an introductory APR on both purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 billing cycles.  After that the APR goes to a variable rate of 13.99 to 23.99 percent.

The Bottom Line:  The FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa® Signature Card from U.S. Bank earns a 4.6 rating out of five stars.  Frequent travelers will find this card to be very attractive, both for the points earned by purchasing airfare on the card and also for the ability to spend points on airfare.  However, it doesn’t offer any travel rewards other than airfare.
