The Visa® Black Card boasts limited membership and a list of luxury bonuses few other credit cards offer.  It has been compared to the American Express Platinum Card in the level of luxuries it offers, although Visa® has done a good job of differentiating their card from others.  Visa® markets its Black Card as “the world’s most prestigious card,” and consumers can easily see why Visa® makes this claim.

The Best Features of the Black Card

One of the most unique features of the Visa® Black Card is the fact that it is made out of carbon rather than plastic.  The carbon makes the card actually feel different and lighter than other credit cards.  Visa® has the design patent pending.

There are many benefits card holders enjoy, and each one of them is luxurious in nature.  For example, consumers can enjoy round-the-clock concierge service, which can be helpful in a variety of ways, like providing you with information while you’re on the road, sending gifts for you, and planning entertainment.  One of the reasons Visa® keeps membership on this card so low is so they can provide the best service possible--especially in terms of this concierge service.

More Benefits!

Card holders also enjoy unlimited visits to VIP lounges at over 100 airports globally.  These visits are provided through a free membership to Priority Pass.  Other benefits of the card are also travel-related, like travel accident insurance and insurance on lost or delayed luggage.  There’s also a collision damage waiver on your automobile rentals and roadside assistance for locksmith referrals and towing throughout the U.S. and Canada.  The Visa® Black Card will even coordinate other services while you travel, like legal or medical services, and cover many of the expenses involved in trip cancellations or delays of more than 12 hours.

Consumers also can enjoy warranty management service, which includes registration of warranties on big ticket items you purchase as well as extended protection on these items, keeping them covered for an extra year over the original warranty offered by the manufacturer.

The Visa® Black Card offers an exclusive rewards program in which card members earn one point for every dollar spent, which that they can redeem for airfare on the airline of their choice.  Also, 1% cash back is provided as a statement credit. Rewards begin at 25,000 points, which can be redeemed for a $500 or less in airfare.  There’s also zero percent introductory APR on balance transfers for the first 15 months.

You can earn 25,000 bonus points when you spend at least $1,500 within 90 days of opening the account.

The Visa® Black Card’s "Less-than-Attractive" Features

Probably the biggest detractor from the Visa® Black Card’s attractiveness is the high $495 annual fee.  Also, since Visa® is keeping membership of this card extremely low, it can be very difficult to be approved for it, even if you have an excellent credit score.

Overall, we give the Visa® Black Card a rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.  Consumers must weigh the luxury features of this card against the annual fee and see if the travel rewards that can be earned through the card are enough to warrant paying the high annual fee.
